Analysts and industry experts are in agreement that a huge risk to Data Lake and other Big Data projects is the lack of metadata management for physical inventory, business meaning, access security, audit trail, and general asset management. The Data Catalog is a critical factor to Big Data program success that must be implemented as additional pieces to the distributed data environment, since it is not inherent in Apache Hadoop.

The Enterprise Data Catalog is now an essential component of modern enterprise architecture and especially critical as part of any Big Data project. It is the solution that data users in our organizations can use to identify what data is available to them and how they can quickly request and get appropriate access.

This presentation will cover:

  • What data do we have? – managing business metadata (meaning) and technical metadata (inventory)
  • Integrating metadata into a central data catalog
  • Using the data catalog to request access to the organization’s data
